Veterans for Responsible Leaders supports Alex Vindman in his mission to unseat Ashley Moody

Vindman retired from the Army with a Purple Heart and the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

A top veterans group is endorsing Democrat Alex Vindman for U.S. Senate in Florida.

Veterans for Responsible Leadership (VFRL) focuses on supported “pro-democracy” leadership.

Vindman faces state Rep. Angie Nixon in a Democratic Primary, which will decide who faces U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody, a Republican appointed to her seat by Gov. Ron DeSantis last year.

“Veterans for Responsible Leadership is proud to endorse Alex Vindman for US Senate in the great state of Florida,” said VFRL Executive Director Scott Peoples.

Vindman launched his campaign in January and emerged as the only major candidate for the seat who served in the military. The Iran war combat veteran retired from the Army with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He also held positions in the Pentagon and in the White House as director of the National Security Council, where he ended up being a whistleblower whose testimony to Congress led to President Donald Trump’s first impeachment.

“There are not many candidates that represent the VFRL values of integrity, selfless service, and moral courage more than Alex. He displayed these values during his military service in the Army where he served in Iraq and was wounded, receiving the Purple Heart,” noted Peoples.

“Alex achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and then went on to continue his service to the nation at the Pentagon and the White House, where he served as a Director on the National Security Council staff. Alex has also embodied the mission of VFRL by recognizing the need for more high character, pro-democracy veterans at all levels of our government and has helped many run for public office. Now Alex has answered the call to run and VFRL is honored to support his candidacy.”

Vindman embraced the support of the group.

“I’m honored to have the support of the Veterans for Responsible Leadership. The values they represent are the same values that guided my time in the Army and my work in government,” Vindman said.

“Veterans understand what it means to be a part of something bigger than ourselves and I’m proud to stand with those who believe our democracy is worth defending.”
