The Pensacola State College District Board of Trustees is getting a new member.
Gov. Ron DeSantis announced he’s appointed Oscar Locklin to the panel.
The eight members of the Board of Trustees, “is charged with appointing and evaluating the performance of the President as the Chief Executive Officer of the college responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of the College,” the Panhandle school’s website said.
The college has six campuses in the Panhandle area. An estimated 26,000 students are enrolled in the school.
Locklin is a lawyer with extensive community involvement in the Pensacola area. He’s a shareholder in the law firm of Locklin, Saba, Locklin and Jones. He’s well versed in litigation in real estate, wills and trusts and probate law.
Locklin is also a member of the Santa Rosa Education Foundation Board of Directors. That panel oversees the foundation and identifies educational needs in Santa Rosa County and encourages engagement from the local business community.
He’s also a volunteer with the Jay Church of Christ.
The educational background of Locklin includes a bachelor’s degree he earned from Harding University. He went on to obtain his law degree from Florida State University.
The Pensacola State College board has eight members. Each serves a four-year term and can be reappointed by the governor. Locklin’s appointment by DeSantis still has to get confirmation from the Florida Senate.
