Three of South Florida’s top community association lawyers have left Becker & Poliakoff for a rival firm.
Veteran lawyers Michael Góngora, Lilliana Farinas-Sabogal and Adam Cervera have joined Association Law Group (ALG), reshaping part of the Sunshine State’s condominium and homeowners’ association legal landscape.
The three lawyers bring decades of experience representing condominium, homeowners’ and cooperative associations across Florida.
Góngora and Farinas-Sabogal are Florida Bar Board-certified in condominium and planned development law, and the group’s work has included governance, litigation and regulatory compliance matters for association clients.
The move, announced Thursday, expands ALG’s bench in general counsel services, litigation and advisory work, positioning the firm to take on a larger client base.
“This decision reflects our shared vision for the future of the association law practice,” Góngora said in a statement.
“Association Law Group provides the platform, leadership and client-first culture that allows us to continue delivering the highest level of service to our clients while innovating how associations are represented.”
Cervera said the firm’s operational approach was a key factor in the decision.
“ALG’s commitment to its clients, responsiveness and practical solutions align perfectly with our values, and we are excited to continue those relationships under the ALG banner,” he said.
Farinas-Sabogal described the move as an opportunity for growth and to “build something transformational for our association clients statewide.”
“The momentum behind ALG is undeniable,” she added.
Beyond their private practice credentials, Góngora and Cervera also bring public sector experience to the firm, providing ALG with legal insights from figures familiar with local government processes and regulatory environments.
Góngora previously served as Miami Beach Vice Mayor and Commissioner. He last ran for public office in 2023, when he lost a runoff for Miami Beach Mayor.
Cervera is a sitting Broward County School Board member, appointed in April by Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Solomon said the hires reflect the firm’s long-term strategy. “Michael, Lilliana and Adam are elite attorneys and respected leaders in our field,” he said. “Their decision to join ALG is a testament to our mission and our commitment to redefining association law.”
ALG, founded roughly two decades ago by real estate lawyer Ben Solomon, has built a statewide practice with offices in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton, with more than 15 lawyers focused exclusively on representing community associations.
